Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis celebrate 20th anniversary of Thelma and Louise


Thelma & Louise is a 1991 film co produced and directed by Ridley Scott and written by Callie Khouri, the film's plot revolves around Thelma and Louise's escape from their troubled and caged lives. It stars Geena Davis as Thelma and Susan Sarandon as Louise, and co stars Harvey Keitel as a sympathetic detective trying to trace them as they go on the run after killing a rapist. Michael Madsen plays the role of Louise's boyfriend. Thelma & Louise became an instant critical and commercial success, and receiving six Academy Award nominations, winning one for Best Original Screenplay Khouri. Sarandon and Davis were nominated for their roles in the same category, Academy Award for Best Actress. However, the two lost the award to Jodie Foster for her role in The Silence of the Lambs.Oscar winning actresses Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis are set to appear in Toronto to celebrate this month's 20th anniversary of their landmark film "Thelma and Louise."The two are scheduled to sit down at Roy Thomson Hall tonight to talk about the influence of the 1991 heroine road trip drama, which won an Oscar for best screenplay.Davis and Sarandon star in the film as two working class friends who head out for a weekend getaway that sees them becoming accidental outlaws.With its feminist overtones and original plot, the film became an iconic symbol of women's rights.It was also a breakthrough film for Brad Pitt, who played a strapping paroled robber who befriends the girls on their journey.Ridley Scott co produced and directed the film, which earned both Davis and Sarandon Oscar nominations for their roles.
